The Global Fibrosis Foundation
was founded by Gloria Pennington and dermatologist Dr. Shawn Cowper, MD. In 2015, Gloria passed away from Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis, also known as gadolinium-induced fibrosis.
The Global Fibrosis Foundation worked hard to stop gadolinium injections in patients with pre-existing renal failure. They championed their cause with success, considering NSF is one of the most widely known and accepted contraindications for gadolinium contrast agents.
Listening to the organization’s old videos, it is clear that they were under the impression newer macrocyclic agents would eradicate NSF, also known as gadolinium-induced fibrosis. Considering macrocyclic agents had not hit the market yet, this was a prediction that was prematurely corroborated in the medical literature.
In reality, almost a decade later, numerous individuals have received macrocyclic agents that caused fibrosis with normal renal function. This is because gadolinium is the causative agent in fibrosis.
Dr. Wagner’s most recent (pre-published) research revealed that macrocyclic agents de-chelate in a two-step time delay process from their ligands, in lysosomal pH, when exposed to biological factors. The de-chelated gadolinium then forms small, jagged, sharp metal nanoparticles in the body.
That said, the videos and content from GlobalFibrosis.org serve as a relic of the past and a hopeful prediction for the future, despite not coming to full fruition. Their hard work and dedication successfully increased gadolinium awareness in the medical community.
They pushed for a change in practice due to the evolvement of knowledge, and now gadolinium-mammal science is evolving again.
Human injuries from macrocyclic gadolinium agents are on the rise. Dr. Wagner’s microscopic research revealed how and why that is occurring: nanoparticles. Will we once again update industry “best practices” to ensure human health?
